Accidents
What to do in the event of an accident
Accidents can be very traumatic for all concerned. That’s why our aim is to help you as quickly and efficiently as possible. Here’s what you should do:
- Call the police or emergency services if necessary.
- Get the name and address of whoever else is involved in the accident. And indeed of any witnesses who might have seen what happened. (To that end, it’s often quite a sensible solution to keep a pad and pen in your glovebox.)
- If you have a camera on you, it’s often a good idea to take pictures.
- What about your car? If it’s rendered out of action and you have our Breakdown Assistance, call 0800 328 8740 if the accident happened in the UK or 00 44 1274 658073 if it took place in the European Union.
- You’ll also need to contact us or your broker as soon as possible. The number for Zurich is 0800 400 641 for accidents in the UK.
- Following your accident, we will take your car to one of our approved repairers.
- If your cover includes a courtesy car, then the repairers will sort you out with one whilst yours is being fixed. It will be delivered to your home at a time of your choosing. Please note that it can take up to 24 hours to be arranged.
- And finally you’ll need to get your insurance claim sorted out. This is a very simple process and is covered off here.
